(SportsNetwork. Vladimir Guerrero Jersey .com) - The Minnesota Wild hope to return to the win column Saturday, when the struggling club emerges from the Christmas break to host the Winnipeg Jets in the opener of a home-and-home series. Minnesota made it to the second round of last springs playoffs and was a favorite to return to the postseason in 2014-15. Things have not gone as planned, however, and the Wild find themselves six points out of a playoff spot in the West. The Wild also are sitting fifth in the Central Division -- eight points behind the fourth-place Jets and just one ahead of Colorado. Minnesota is currently mired in a four-game losing streak (0-2-2), matching the clubs 0-4 mark from Nov. 4-11 for its lengthiest skid of the season. The Wild havent dropped five straight since an 0-6 slide from Dec. 19-31 of last season. The usually sting Wild have imploded defensively during their current slide, allowing a total of 19 goals over the four setbacks. Minnesota yielded five goals in Tuesdays setback to the Philadelphia Flyers, who posted a 5-2 win to drop the Wild to 0-1-2 on a four-game homestand. Marco Scandella and Charlie Coyle scored against the Flyers. Darcy Kuemper stopped 25 shots in the setback. I think its a blessing that we have three days off to step away, said Wild forward Matt Cooke. Kuemper was pressed into duty for Niklas Backstrom after the latter netminder was a late scratch due to an illness. Its uncertain who will get the call in net tonight. Mike Yeos club hopes its recent success against the Jets can help it get back on track. The Wild posted a 4-3 overtime win over a visiting Winnipeg club on Nov. 16, giving Minnesota wins in two straight and five of the last six meetings in this series. The Wild are 6-1-1 with a tie in nine all-time home tests against the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise. The clubs will meet again in Mondays rematch at MTS Centre. Winnipeg finished its pre-break schedule on a four-game point streak (3-0-1) and it posted an impressive victory in its final tilt before the hiatus. The Jets visited Chicago on Tuesday and slammed the Central Division-leading Blackhawks, 5-1. Mathieu Perreault continued his hot play of late with two goals to lift Winnipeg in the rout at United Center. Perreault has tallied five goals and four assists over an eight-game point streak and Tuesdays performance was his first multi-point game of the run. Blake Wheeler finished with a goal and an assist, Bryan Little and Anthony Peluso also scored and Andrew Ladd supplied two helpers for the Jets. Michael Hutchinson, who posted a 33-save shutout in Winnipegs 1-0 over Chicago on Nov. 2, was stellar once again, turning aside 38 shots for the win. Hutchinson was good for us and made some key saves at the right times, said Perreault. When we got our chances, we were able to put them in. Jets coach Paul Maurice may continue his goaltender rotation tonight and give Ondrej Pavelec the start over Hutchinson. Pavelec is 2-2-1 with a 2.55 goals against average in seven career outings against Minnesota. Rod Carew Jersey . After Mondays comments by Coach Claude Noel that its work first and skill second, and that more “A” games are needed, the Jets responded with a 47-shot effort. If not for terrific goaltending by Braden Holtby the Jets would have had two points in regulation. Dave Winfield Jersey . Joining him in this years class were Switzerlands Patrick Huerlimann and Norways Eigil Ramsfjell. The announcement was made at the world mens curling championship at Capital Indoor Stadium in China. https://www.cheapangels.com/323j-nolan-ryan-jersey-angels.html . The San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders are giving it a try, too.Ive often wondered how to truly judge managers, especially the ones who are getting their first shot at a big league job. How much slack should we cut them? How long before you write them off? How long before you say theyve truly arrived? For the purpose of this article, I decided to look at the first five seasons in the careers of five different managers, To make this a little more interesting, Im not going to put names to their records until a little later. For now, Ill just call them managers A, B, C, D and E. Lets start with A. He got his first managerial job in the MLB at age 37. Over his first five years, he was 63 games in total under .500 at 344-407. Manager B was also a star player and got his big league start as a skipper at 36. His teams had two winning records over his first eight years. Over his first five years, his clubs had three seasons of 95 or more losses and compiled a record of 286-420. At 43, Manager C started his first MLB managerial gig. His record over his first five years wasnt very pretty, either, checking in at 348-414. Each of these gentlemen managed two different teams over those five-year spans, as well. Makes you think that maybe they should have started planning for a future outside of baseball. Managers D and E are both still managing. D got his first job at 38 and over the five seasons, guided his teams to a cumulative record of 383-427. Are we sensing a pattern here? E got his first chance at managing in the MLB at 42 and, lo and behold, he was the only one of the quintet to hit .500 in his first fuve seasons at 305-305. Were the first four managers washouts? Hardly. Was Manager E on the road to success? That remains to be seen. Maybe now, its time for the big reveal. Manager A is Bobby Cox. He managed 29 years in the Bigs, four with the Toronto Blue Jays and 25 with the Atlanta Braves. He led the Jays to their first AL East title in 1985 and the Braves to their one and only World Series title in Atlanta in 1995. He finished his managerial career with 2,504 victories versus 2001 defeats. Manager B is Joe Torre, who now works in the commissioners office. Like Cox, he managed for 29 years and had the bulk of his success with the New York Yankees, winning four World Series crowns in four tries. Manager C is Charles Dillon "Casey" Stengel, who, like Torre, didnt strike gold until he arrived with the Yankees. Michael Hermosillo Angels Jersey. He won seven World Series in the pinstripes, including a record five straight. His teams reached the World Series nine times. Manager D is Cleveland Indians bench boss Terry Francona, whos still in the thick of the Wild Card race. He started with the Philadelphia Phillies, but found his niche in Boston winning World Series titles in 2004 and 2007 with the Red Sox, breaking the Curse of the Bambino forever. Manager E is the Blue Jays own John Gibbons. He is the only one of this group of five to even reach .500 in his first five years as a manager in the Big. Three of the other four have made it to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown and Francona is well on his way to getting there, as well. I am in no way stating that John Gibbons will follow that same path, but the first five years of the other four at least gives you pause for some sober thought. Gibys record in his second term with the Jays is 152-165, but with a week to go in the 2014 season, the Blue Jays at least have four more wins than they did a year ago. Will John Gibbons be back as manager in 2015? I have a hunch he will, but like Randy Carlyle with the Maple Leafs this season, it figures to be his make-or-break year. - The Kansas City Royals have an excellent chance this week of making it back to the postseason for the first time since 1985, when they won their one and only World Series title in seven games over their state rival St. Louis Cardinals. The Royals played their final home game of the regular season Sunday and pushed their attendance to 1.9 million for the season. It was their highest total since 1981, a span of 33 years. The Cardinals, on the other hand, finished their home season Sunday with an average attendance of 43,712at Busch Stadium, pushing their total attendance to 3,540,649. That is the second-highest total in franchise history next to 2007. Its no wonder St. Louis is considered one of the crown jewel franchises in baseball. - I dont know whether Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve is going to be the American Leagues MVP, but hes got to be right up there in the voting when its all said and done, Altuve, through Sunday, is leading the Majors with a .345 average and has 220 hits, the most by a second baseman since Charlie Gehringers 227 with Detroit in 1936. DUNEDIN, Florida – The Blue Jays dropped to 3-2 in Grapefruit League action following an 8-2 loss to the Yankees at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium on Sunday. Wholesale NHL Jerseys . Right-hander Todd Redmond took the loss. Jose Bautista hit his second home run of the spring. Here are a handful of tidbits from around camp: Hutchison impressive The Blue Jays are being cautious when talking about their young arms but internally, excitement is building over the way Drew Hutchison is looking and performing this spring. Hutchison is among those looking to secure an available spot in the starting rotation. According to the official radar gun at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Drew Hutchisons four-seam fastball topped out at 94 miles per hour during Saturdays start against the Orioles. The Blue Jays have different, even more encouraging information. Scouts had readings as high as 96 miles per hour. Hutchison, as is his custom when hes on his game, was locating his pitches and working the corners of the plate. Hutchison threw two innings, didnt allow a run, gave up one hit and struck out four. He threw 38 pitches, 25 for strikes. Anthopoulos looking to deal The Blue Jays have an abundance of bullpen arms and general manager Alex Anthopoulos continues to dangle some of that pitching depth in an effort to upgrade the ballclub. Toronto is looking for starting pitching help, which may be found internally (see above on Hutchison,) and an established right-handed bat off the bench. Sergio Santos, who was almost traded during the offseason, is a name that continues to come up in discussions. Seitzer thrilled with early returns New hitting coach Kevin Seitzer isnt just encouraged by the Blue Jays offensive start to spring training, hes thrilled. "I get goosebumps right now thinking about it," said Seitzer. "Getting timing in games is very, very difficult for hitters to do, especially early in camp. The quality of at-bats, the takes, the lack of panic, the plan, the approach, I couldnt be more pleased. They have been professionals every single day in their early work, batting practice routines. I havent heard one person complain about anything at all from an offensive standpoint." While Brett Lawrie has missed the last two games due to hamstring tightness, hes impressed Seitzer early with his gap-to-gap approach. The two continue to work on limiting Lawries movement in the batters box, including lessening Lawries hand waggle. "Were eating this elephant one bite at a time and my focus is opening day to where hes dialing in," said Seitzer. "But where he continues to try and do it, quieting down, keep those hands still when hes loading, hes getting results. He took 96 mph the other way the other day on that lefty who had a good fastball and it was middle in. He didnt panic, he didnt force it, he didnt jerk, all he did was stay short and stay inside and he smoked a ball past first. The opposite field doubles hes hit driving the ball the other way, he told me right out of the gate that was his focus the last month and a half when he started to have some success." By the time he first met the media in January, during the winter caravan, second baseman Ryan Goins had taken Seitzer up on an open invitation to visit his home in Kansas City. It was an opportunity for the two to become acquainted and lay a foundation for the work theyre doing this spring. Seitzer believes Goins could be a .270 or .280 hitter in the big leagues, suggesting he has the mental acumen to develop into a .300 hitter. "I dont like dropping ceilings on guys because you just never know," said Seitzer. "You never know how hes going to be able to handle big-league pitching on a daily basis and be able to make the adjustments that he needs to make. But so far, everything Ive seen has been very good, very positive, that hes going to be able to make those adjustments that he needs to make. But that remains to be seen, theres been a lot of hitters that Ive worked with that are really good in the cage, in batting practice but then putting it into the game is the last big challenge. But I think mentally and emotionally, hes tough enough to have the discipline to be able to do that everyday." Janssen sore Casey Janssen is dealing with stiffness in his pitching shoulder, which has prevented him from maintaining a normal spring schedule, including regular bullpen sessions and appearances in Grapefruit League games. "I think its just the inflammation," said Janssen. "Its going to subside. Just take a couple of days off and get right back on and start throwing again." Janssen underwent an MRI, which revealed inflammation in the back of his shoulder, where the decelerator muscles are located. Last spring and for most of last season, Janssen was hampered by soreness in his rotator cuff, the result of surgery he had in the 2012-2013 offseason. "It always sucks but I think I know how to get ready," he said. "I was looking forward to a normal spring, coming with all the guys and thats what I was expecting but unfortunately, I havent been in a game yet and all the other stuff but Ill get there. Eyes are on opening day like they always were." Janssen wont pick up a baseball for at least two more days. Hell attempt to play long toss and if his shoulder reacts positively, hell progress to bullpen sessions and then work his way into games. Rasmus Scratched Colby Rasmus was in manager John Gibbons Sunday lineup but removed himself due to a stiff neck. "I just woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning," said Rasmus. "Got a little crink in my neck. Just one of those things, after throwing and warming up, I just feel like I need to take myself out just as a precaution. In a couple of days, I should be fine." Clubs typically travel skeleton rosters to far away places and so its likely Rasmus wasnt going to play on Monday in Fort Myers, against the Twins, anyway. He hopes to return on Tuesday. "Normally you throw some hot sauce on there and go about your business," said Rasmus. "It just kind of locked up a little tighter." Yankees almost smoked out The Yankees briefly considered evacuating the visitors clubhouse before Sundays game at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium when smoke from an over-heated dryer began to waft into the locker room. The matter was quickly brought under control. Perez and Ohka reassigned Left-hander Juan Perez and right-hander Tomo Ohka, whos making a comeback attempt as a knuckleball pitcher, have been reassigned to minor league camp. The Blue Jays now have 58 players remaining in major league camp. Ashton scored a hat trick -- giving him 13 goals in 16 AHL games this season -- to power the Toronto Marlies to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Lake Erie Monsters in AHL action on Sunday. "He took the game over," said Marlies coach Steve Spott. "You see what he can do at this level. "Hes going to have to find that same confidence and swagger when he plays for the (NHL parent) Maple Leafs. Here in the AHL, he does a nice job, he maintains possession of the puck, he uses his body, uses his speed, and it becomes a weapon for him. He just needs to find the confidence to do that at the next level." Ashton broke a 2-2 tie -- and completed his hat trick -- during a goal-mouth scramble when he deposited a rebound into the net past Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard at 6:16 of the third period. Defenceman T.J. Brennan, with his team-leading 21st of the season, gave the Marlies a two-goal cushion 45 seconds later when his point shot trickled through Pickards legs. Brandon Kozun closed out the scoring with an empty-netter at 17:51. "Its definitely a process, so to come back down and get these games and some good ice time, thats good for me," Ashton said. "And we finished off our homestand with a win, so thats great." Toronto went 7-3-0 on its 10-game homestand and improved to 33-18-4 on the season, good for first place in the North Division. Ashtons linemates, Spencer Abbott and Greg McKegg, collected two assists apiece in front of 4,351 fans at Ricoh Coliseum. Joey Hishon and Mike Sgarbossa replied for the Monsters, who dropped their second game in a row to fall to 23-26-6. "Give Lake Errie credit, they found a way to get back into it after a two-goal deficit," said Spott, who watched the Monsters strike twice in the latter stages of the second period after Toronto had staked a 2-0 lead. Fake NHL Jerseys. "We knew we were at home, playing the last period of a 10-game homestand, and we wanted to take advantage of it. I give our guys a lot of credit for the way they played the final 20 minutes." Marlies goalie Drew MacIntyre was sharp making 26 saves, while Pickard stopped 18 of 22 shots. Toronto led 1-0 after the first period and the score was tied 2-2 through 40 minutes. The Marlies opened the scoring 53 seconds into the first period when Ashton took a pass from Spencer Abbott in the slot, cut to the left and whipped a wrist shot past Pickards blocker. The Monsters had some chances of their own in the opening frame -- including a two-minute 5-on-3 power play and a breakaway by right winger Guillaume Desbiens -- but they couldnt beat MacIntyre. Ashton gave the Marlies a two-goal edge when he deflected Greg McKeggs point shot past a screened Pickard at 10:02 of the second period. The advantage was shortlived, however, as Hishon put the Monsters on the scoreboard 52 seconds later when he redirected a slapshot past MacIntyre. Sgarbossa tied it up when he whacked in a rebound for a power-play goal at 18:35 of the middle frame. Ashton regained the lead for Toronto with his third goal of the game at 6:16 of the third period, and Brennans goal 45 seconds later sealed the win for the Marlies. Kozun capped the scoring with an empty-netter at 17:51 Toronto went 0 for 3 on the power play while Lake Erie was 1 for 6. The Marlies and Monsters are off until next weekend, when Toronto visits Lake Erie for back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday. ' ' '

(SportsNetwork. Cheap Rockies Jerseys .com) - A pair of teams near the bottom of the NHL standings will meet Saturday afternoon in the City of Brotherly Love when the Philadelphia Flyers welcome the Edmonton Oilers to the Wells Fargo Center. Philadelphia is ranked 29th out of 30 NHL teams with just nine points this season on a 4-10-1 record. Edmonton has 10 points, but, at 4-11-2, the Oilers have played two more games than the Flyers. This is Edmontons first game in Philadelphia in over two years. The Oilers last visited the Wells Fargo Center on March 8, 2011 and dropped a 4-1 decision to halt a four-game road winning streak in this series. Edmonton is 7-1-0 with a tie in the past nine overall meetings against the Flyers. While in Philadelphia, Edmonton announced the signing of former Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov, whose tumultuous tenure in the City of Brotherly Love ended this summer with a massive buyout. Bryzgalov, who has yet to play this season in the NHL, agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Oilers on Friday. According to reports, the 33-year-old Russian will spend time with the Oilers AHL affiliate in Oklahoma City for conditioning before joining the big club. Bryzgalov joined the Flyers in the summer of 2011, signing an 8-year, $51 million deal. However, perceptions of inconsistent play along with off-ice and locker-room behavior issues contributed to the buyout -- one which saved the current basement dwellers in the Metropolitan Division an estimated $6 million on the salary cap for the remaining six years of the deal. "We get a goaltender that has a history of being a high performer in parts of his career, and we get a guy thats very motivated and hes going to have a chance to be a good goalie," said Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish. Edmonton starting goaltender Devan Dubnyk has struggled to a 3-6-1 record, 3.80 GAA and .878 save percentage this season. Backups Richard Bachman and Jason LaBarbera have combined to go 1-5-1 in their nine appearances. The Flyers enter Saturday having lost two straight and four of their last five games. Philadelphia has scored a total of four goals over that five-game stretch and is dead last in the NHL with an average of 1.47 goals per game this season. Philadelphias most recent setback, a 3-0 home loss Thursday night against the New Jersey Devils, prompted a players-only meeting to be called by team captain Claude Giroux, who is still without a goal in 15 games this season. "Well, were definitely frustrated, but the bright side is we have a good group," said Flyers goaltender Ray Emery after Thursdays loss. "We have a lot of guys who really enjoy playing together." Emery was outdueled Thursday by Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur, who posted a 22-save shutout against the punchless Flyers. Adam Henrique, Cam Janssen and former Philadelphia forward Jaromir Jagr each scored a goal for New Jersey. The Devils had been shut out in their previous two games, including a 1-0 defeat to the Flyers last Saturday. Emery, who had blanked the Devils on Saturday, stopped 22 shots for the Flyers in Thursdays setback. Philadelphia went 0-for-3 on the power play against the Devils and has scored just once on 17 chances with the man advantage over the last four games. The Flyers are ranked 27th in the league with a 10-percent success rate on the power play this season. "On a consistent, nightly basis you have to outwork the penalty killing of the other team and you have to create momentum for your team, and they did not do that tonight," said Flyers head coach Craig Berube. Edmonton enters Saturday as the bottom team in the Western Conference standings and has dropped six of its last seven games. The Oilers, who are making the third stop on a four-game road trip this afternoon, last played on Thursday in Tampa and lost a 4-2 decision to the Lightning. Steven Stamkos victimized Edmonton for two goals, as the Oilers fell to 3-6-2 as the visiting team this season. "We made three mistakes tonight and two of them went to the wrong player," Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins said, referring to Stamkos. Edmonton did manage to fire 40 shots on net Thursday, but Ben Bishop turned aside 38 of those attempts to frustrate the Oilers offense time and again. "Its one of those nights where I loved the way we played. We played with passion," Eakins added. Taylor Hall returned from a knee injury to register one of Edmontons two tallies, with Taylor Fedun accounting for the other. Dubnyk stopped 22- of-25 shots in the loss. The Oilers are set to close their four-game swing Sunday in Chicago. The Football Association says that an independent panel rejected Carrolls claim of wrongful dismissal, and the ban will take immediate effect. Carroll was shown a straight red card just before the hour mark on Saturday when his flailing arm caught Swansea defender Chico Flores on the head in West Hams 2-0 victory. Colorado Rockies Store. MANCHESTER, England - Italy and the Netherlands became the first European teams to qualify for the 2014 World Cup but Germanys passage to the finals in Brazil was delayed despite also winning on Tuesday. Cheap Jerseys From China . Mario Balotellis 54th-minute penalty secured a 2-1 win for Italy over the Czech Republic to seal first place in Group B, while Robin van Persies second-half double in a 2-0 win at Andorra guaranteed the Dutch top spot in Group D. Both countries qualified with two matches to spare, with the Azzurri qualifying for their 14th straight World Cup on the night goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon made a record-equaling 136th appearance for Italy. Germany beat the Faeroe Islands 3-0 but still needs one more win for automatic qualification, with Sweden five points behind with two matches left after a 1-0 win in Kazakhstan. Englands destiny in its own hands after drawing 0-0 at Ukraine to stay top of Group H and Russia can also make the finals by winning its last two games after beating Israel 3-1 to topple Portugal in Group F. France twice came from behind to defeat Belarus 4-2 and draw level with Group I leader Spain, which has a game in hand. Elsewhere, Switzerland won 2-0 at Norway in Group E and needs just one victory from its last two games, against Albania away and Slovenia at home, to finish first. Bosnia-Herzegovina remained ahead of Greece on goal difference in Group G after coming from behind to beat Slovakia 2-1. The top team from each of the nine European groups qualifies automatically for Brazil. The best eight runners-up go into playoffs in November and that is likely to include Cristiano Ronaldos Portugal, with Russia having two easy final games. Spain wasnt in World Cup qualifying action but still played Tuesday, twice coming from behind to draw 2-2 with Chile in Geneva. At halftime in their respective matches, Italy and the Dutch were on course to blow their chances of sealing qualification early but their star forwards came through for them when it mattered. Three minutes after Giorgio Chiellini cancelled out Libor Kozaks opener for the Czechs in the 19th, Balotelli stepped up after being brought down in the area to coolly convert his penalty. The AC Milan striker had missed a string of great chances before maintaining his record of never missing a spot kick. Kozaks goal meant Buffon couldnt mark his special night with a clean sheet but he will still never forget matching Fabio Cannavaros appearance record at the Juventus Stadium — the home of the Turin club where he has spent most of his club career. Italy has missed only one World Cup since 1934, but has never qualified with two matches to play. "Its a great satisfaction," Italy coach Cesare Prandelli said. "This is a very talented team which always manages to give its maximum. I saw a great Italy." Czech coach Michal Bilek tendered his resignation after the match, with his team fourth in the group and unlikely to reach the playoffs. The Netherlands can also start planning for next summers finals, although it took goals from Van Persie in the 50th and 55th minute to squeeze past a team ranked 205th in the world. With Romania losing at home to Turkey for the first time since 1925, the Dutch cant be caught. "Weve qualified, thats step one," said Van Persie, who moved to 38 goals for his country — two off the record held by Patrick Kluivert. "Now have to start working toward the World Cup." With Zlatan Ibrahimovic grabbing Swedens winner in one of the early matches in the latest batch of qualifiers, the Germans knew they would have to wait until next month to progress. They had little trouble seeing off the Faeroes, who were reduced to 10 men late on, with Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Thomas Mueller scoring the goals. Austria can still catch Sweden for second place after beating Ireland 1-0 in Vienna. A nail-biting finish is guaranteed in Englands group after Roy Hodgsons side — featuring Frank Lampard in his 100th international appearance — held on for a goalless draw in Kyiv to stay in command with two games left. Three points separates the English from Montenegro, Ukraine (who are both one behind) and fourth-place Poland, which thrashed San Marino 5-1. Poland must still travel to Ukraine and England, which first plays Montenegro at home. Russia only has to beat Azerbaijan and Luxembourg — the groups bottom two teams — away to qualify for its first World Cup since 2002 and condemn Portugal to the playoffs. Vasiliy Berezutsky, Aleksandr Kokorin and Denis Glushakov scored for Fabio Capellos side in Moscow. Elsewhere in Group F, Luxembourg beat Northern Ireland 3-2 for only its fourth win in 122 World Cup qualifiers and its first at home since 1972. China Jerseys Stitched . However, it wasnt a problem on Monday night. Evgeni Nabokov made 23 saves for his 56th career shutout in the New York Islanders 3-0 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Monday night. Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca! Kerry: I will give you full marks for your comments on the Pens/Bruins fiasco...100 per cent bang on...that had to be the worst display of "game management" I have seen in a while. Kerry, Im an old timer, spent about 11 years wearing the black and white stripes and saw a lot in my day. What I dont get and never will is the reluctance to allow Linesman to be more involved in decision making. And no I am not talking about having them watch for more, Lord knows with the speed of the game they already have their hands full. HOWEVER, how many times have we seen blatant offences with NO call only to wind up with supplementary discipline? It happens routinely and you cannot tell me that in many of these cases one of the Linesmen did not see the blatant offence occur? Case in point: Phaneufs hit on Sunday night...how in the world do 4 (four) sets of eyes not see that as a direct hit from behind...no call but he has a hearing! And I am a LIFELONG Leaf fan! Point is if they (the League) are REALLY serious about cleaning up the game, then the culture amongst Officials has to change. You have four sets of eyes out there they should USE them and it can be done with undue burden...as I pointed out, not asking them to LOOK for more, but when they see it, they need to be able to call it. It is called "CHECKING YOUR EGO AT THE DOOR". This should not be a slight against the Referees...the game has changed dramatically. Its faster, harder, players are bigger and more mobile - its time to catch up. Cheers Kerry,Jeff Baldwin Jeff:Thank you for the thought-provoking question. You too sir are bang on with regard to many of the shortcomings that we see take place on almost a nightly basis in the current two-referee system. I have to question an apparent lack of coaching and the accountability process that NHL Officials are currently being held to when we witness similar plays that are often misjudged or missed. From your experience as a referee Jeff, you know that you have to position yourself in advance of the play to acquire the best possible sight line to make the call. I have made reference to this crucial aspect of officiating on many occasions in this column. When a call is missed, the referee most directly responsible for that call often has an obstructed view of the play. Yes, the game is faster and the players are certainly bigger, but there are too many "puck watchers" currently wearing black and white stripes that dont see the game in advance. Given the human factor, we know (and can accept) that calls will be missed; after all nobodys perfect. There are also a number of infractions currently in the rule book that Linesmen are allowed to call (hits from behind like the one Phaneuf delivered on Kevan Milller being one of them!) Linesmen have a difficult and specific job of their own to do; one that is very important and can also impact a game. China Jerseys Wholesale. Conferences between the four officials take place whenever a goal is scored and there is a question that goalkeeper interference took place or to determine if the puck was shot directly over the glass. A correct decision has often been rendered through these types of meetings of the minds. Many of the young NHL Officials have been fast-tracked through a two-referee system where they never really had to fend for themselves. There was always another person to rely on which inhibited their growth and experience as a young referee. I maintain that to be most effective, a ref has to work like he is the only set of eyes on the ice. He should want to see everything that takes place with his head on swivel even though he is responsible for certain specific areas of coverage in the two-referee system. The better referees in the NHL work within the current system to support their partner but also like they are the sole referee in the game. The confidence and authority of the modern day NHL referee has gradually been eroded through the safety net and hands on approach that the Hockey Operations Department exerts over both the officials and the Officiating Department. Telephones installed in the officials dressing room provide a direct link to the Toronto Situation Room. The "hot line" can ring between periods if Hockey Operations personnel deem it necessary to provide input to the officials. The last time I checked, while many of them were excellent players, none of them refereed a game in the league! Far too many times I see minor penalties assessed for what should easily be judged as a major or match infraction such as James Neals knee to the head of Brad Marchand. Either the referees judgment needs considerable tweaking or they prefer to rely on supplementary discipline to suspend a player if the Player Safety Committee deems it violent enough. Video review is an excellent tool to verify the scoring of a legal goal but that decision also is taken out of the referees hands and electronically transported to Toronto. That is of course, unless the Situation Room cant make a clear and firm decision in which case an "inconclusive verdict" throws the call back in the referees lap who has yet to see a replay of the incident. I dont think its so much about checking ones ego at door Jeff. I believe its more about developing proper coaching techniques and to empower the officials to be the very best that they can be. While there are a number of officials that do a terrific job there is much work that is required in this area. The NHL Officials, to a man, are good and dedicated people. They deserve the very best opportunity to succeed. Its in the best interest of the game they are given the proper tools to do so. ' ' '

The 26-year-old slider from Calgary posted a time of 50.464 seconds, 0.573 seconds back of leader Natalie Geisenberger. The German led the overall World Cup womens standings this season and continued her dominance by putting down a track record time of 49.Imagine if you will a Jays team starting this season with Roberto Alomar at second base, Joe Carter in right field, Devon White in centre, John Olerud at first and Paul Molitor at DH. Los Angeles Lakers Pro Shop . Not to mention a pitching staff, that includes Dave Stewart, Juan Guzman, Pat Hentgen and up-and-comers like Woody Williams, Al Leiter and Todd Stottlemyre. This team would also have three young prospects who could be the foundation of a great team for years to come in Carlos Delgado, Shawn Green and Alex Gonzalez. You might already be printing the World Series tickets. Well it didnt exactly turn out that way for the 1994 Blue Jays. They did win six of their first seven games and got off to decent 12-6 start including a six-game win streak. However it didnt last, and by the time the strike came in mid-August that led to the eventual shutdown of the season, they had faded to 55-60 and the dream of a three-peat gone with it. I painted that little scenario to show you how difficult it can be to predict division winners, let alone World Series champs. The 1994 Jays had most of the key components back from the team that had repeated in 1993, including having WAMCO intact as the top five hitters in the lineup (White, Alomar, Molitor, Carter and Olerud). There were three missing pieces. Closer Duane Ward had injured his shoulder in the offseason and was never really able to come back and be the dominant bullpen stopper he had been. Shortstop Tony Fernandez and left fielder Rickey Henderson had been allowed to leave in the offseason as well. Still, there was more than enough talent for this team to contend. Darren Hall, a mere shadow of Ward took over as closer and recorded 17 saves. Veteran Dick Schofield played the bulk of the games at short and journeyman Mike Huff played left for the most part. I would submit the 94 Blue Jays had far more talent than the current Jays, yet they finished the abbreviated season five games under .500. You dont want to be a total buzz-kill about the 2014 Jays, because they do have talent. If they both stay healthy, Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion are capable of hitting at least 40 homers. Melky Cabrera, sans back tumour, is looking more like he could have been batting champ with the Giants a couple of years ago. Jose Reyes, again when healthy, is one of the top shortstops in the game. Brett Lawrie could be on the cusp of developing into one of the top third basemen in the Majors, and this is a free agent contract year for Colby Rasmus, so the pressure is on for him to produce. In other words, the offence should be there. As it has been the past two seasons, pitching is the question. The starting rotation has to log enough innings to give a solid bullpen the chance to produce results for the entire season, not just the first half, after which they could fade from overuse. If Drew Hutchison is the real deal, and it looks as though he just might be, the top three in the rotation looks pretty decent, though you always worry about the inevitable age-related declines of veterans like R.A. Dickey ( 39) and Mark Buehrle (35). Los Angeles Lakers Shirts. The question marks are the 4 and 5 starters. Brandon Morrow has to prove he can put together a dominant healthy season and finally realize his vast potential. As for Dustin McGowan, youd have to have a heart of stone not to be pulling for this guy, whos battled through injury after injury to finally crack the Opening Day roster for the first time since 2008. Top prospects Aaron Sanchez and Marcus Stroman are waiting in the wings, but probably wont make significant contributions this season, unless there is another rash of injuries, or the Jays drop so far back, they just decide to go young. After calling the Jays to win 92 or 93 games a year ago and contend for a wild card spot, Im reluctant to make any kind of a call on where they will finish in 2014. But my gut tells me they will win 83 or 84 games and be battling for fourth with Baltimore or maybe even Boston. I really do hope Im wrong. Jays Elsewhere Not a really good well for Canadians in the Majors or ex-Jays. The Cubs released Canuck catcher George Kottaras, while Minnesota out-righted lefthander Scott Diamond of Guelph, Ontario to Triple "A" Rochester. Lefty Frank Viola, a Cy Young winner and World Series star in his days with the Twins, had a brief stint with the Jays near the end of his career. The now 53-year-old Viola is taking a leave of absence from his job as the Mets Triple "A" pitching coach at Las Vegas after undergoing open heart surgery. The man taking Violas place is Tom Signore, who was the Blue Jays Double "A" pitching coach at New Hampshire the past three years. So Signore will get to work with the Mets top pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard, whom he also had in the Blue Jays system before he was traded as part of the package for R.A Dickey. Former Jays righthander Shaun Marcum was sent to their minor league camp by Clevleand. Marcum, who was dealt to Milwaukee for Brett Lawrie, has seen his career hampered by injuries. Over eight years in the bigs, the 32-year-old Marcum has a 58-46 record with a 3.88 earned run average. The Indians are hoping he can battle his way back at some point this season. J.P Arencibia was hoping to get some significant playing time in Texas this season to re-establish his career. When the Rangers number one backstop Geovany Soto went down for 10-12 weeks with torn meniscus in his right knee, it looked as though J.P would be the man but skipper Ron Washington has been more impressed with Robinson Chirinos. So it appears J.P., at least for now, is stuck as the backup. One Jay having a good week, in fact a good spring, is catcher Yan Gomes. He appears to have won the number one job with Cleveland after the Indians moved Carlos Santana from catcher to third base. The Jays traded Gomes and veteran utility infielder Mike Aviles to the Indians for righthander Esmil Rogers in the previous offseason. Considering how Gomes has progressed and Rogers has faltered this spring, the Jays might like a mulligan on that one. ' ' '

SANTA CLARA, Calif. Cheap Padres Jerseys . -- Quarterback Josh Johnson has returned to the San Francisco 49ers and his former college coach, Jim Harbaugh. Johnson was cut by the 49ers before the 2012 season, then rejoined them Wednesday after being cut two days earlier by Cincinnati. Harbaugh took a chance on the undersized Johnson at San Diego, developing the 5-foot-11, 145-pound Oakland Tech prep star into a record-setting college QB. But current starter Colin Kaepernick emerged as the steady backup to Alex Smith going into 2012, and Scott Tolzien earned the No. 3 spot that year. MILAN, Italy -- Clarence Seedorf signed a 2 1/2-year contract with AC Milan on Thursday and immediately went to the training ground to meet the players. Nike Air Max Rabatt . Seedorf was contracted to June 30, 2016, Milan said in a statement. At the training ground, the first player to greet him was former teammate Daniele Bonera. The 37-year-old Seedorf spent 10 years as a player with Milan, helping the team win a number of trophies, including two Champions League titles and two Serie A titles. "You cant say Ive returned, because I never left," Seedorf said. "Its very important for me to see all this enthusiasm. We have a lot to do to take Milan back to the top. "At the moment theres a lot of emotion and a sense of duty. I have to give 100 per cent to rebuild and give enthusiasm to the squad. We can try to do important things for the fans. I left Milan in May 2012 at the end of a cycle. My job is to open another one." Seedorf also won the Champions League with Ajax and Real Madrid. Jake Peavy can pitch the San Francisco Giants to their third World Series title in five years tonight when they attempt to close out the Kansas City Royals in Game 6 at Kauffman Stadium. Scarpe Air Max 120 Scontate . Thats what you play for -- to be in the World Series and to win it, Peavy said. To be the guy who gets the ball with that opportunity. Its a special opportunity, I understand that. I just have to do all I can do to be in the moment, to think about executing pitches, to find any way, any how for the San Francisco Giants to win this game. While it may seem as if all the chips are stacked against Kansas City that may not be the case. Teams going home down 3-2 in a best-of-seven World Series have won it all in eight of the last 10 instances. Also, the Giants have lost both of their series when they have been in this position. And of course, Kansas City won Games 6 and 7 at home to win the 1985 World Series. I think the character in our clubhouse is at an all-time high, Royals pitcher James Shields said. I think thats what is going to get us through the next two games. Weve been in some situations where we had to get some wins in September, and we got it done. Theres no difference. Kansas City may have done its part in getting the series back to its ballpark, but the Giants also accomplished their goal of winning a game not started by Madison Bumgarner. Now, theyll have to win another if they want to secure the eighth world title in team history. Peavy will get the first crack at it, as he tries to reverse his postseason fortunes. Peavy ran into trouble against the Royals his third time through the lineup in Game 2 and left after allowing four runs and six hits in five-plus innings of work. Hes pitched to a 3.68 ERA in three starts this postseason, but is just 1-4 lifetime in the playoffs with a 7.05 ERA in eight starts. Im really excited about the opportunity, I really am, Peavy said. I never thought it would happen any other way. Thats not who I am. I never thought wed get swept in the three games (at home). The thought that I might not pitch again never really entered my mind. I prepared and I expected to pitch again, I really did. San Francisco has been spoiled this postseason by Bumgarner, who has put together one of the better runs in recent memory. He followed up his brilliant Game 1 showing with an even better effort in Game 5 on Sunday, as he tossed a four-hit shutout in the Giants 5-0 win. Im just happy we won, Bumgarner said. That was a big game for us, being tied 2-2. Going back to Kansas City with two games, its a whole lot better that we have to win one now instead of having to win two. The Giants have scored first in four of five games in this series and are 7-1 during the postseason under this circumstance. Theyve also scored 15 unanswered runs since falling behind 4-1 in the third inning of Game 4. Neither team homered for the third straight game, marking the first time this has happened in a World Series since Games 1-3 of the 1948 Fall Classic between the Indians and the Boston Braves. Getting the call for the Royals will be 23-year-old rookie Yordano Ventura, who pitched well against the Giants in Game 1. After allowing a leadoff home run to Gregor Blanco, Ventura settled down and ended up surrendering just two runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 frames. That kid has no fear, Royals reliever Kelvin Herrera said of Ventura. You either hit him or he hits you, but hes not going to be scared. Ventura will be pitching with a heavy heart Tuesday following the death of his friend, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras, who was killed in a car accident in the Dominican Republic. Ventura plans on writing Taveras No. 18 and the initials R.I.P. on his spikes and glove in memory of his countrymate. Its going to be hard to put that aside, Ventura said on Monday, but Im going to throw everything I have out there. Im dedicating that game to him. These teams actually met in the regular season, as the Royals completed a three-game sweep at Kauffman Stadium. Going back to The K, said Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas, with those fans and that electricity, were excited. If necessary, Game 7 will be played on Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium. Jeter led off the inning with a soft grounder off Corey Kluber that shortstop Jose Ramirez charged but failed to pick up with his bare hand. PRETORIA, South Africa - Police photographs of a bare-chested Oscar Pistorius standing in his garage on blood-stained prosthetic legs and wearing shorts covered in blood, taken shortly after the athlete fatally shot his girlfriend, were shown to the court at his murder trial Friday. Air Jordan Discount . Prosecutors displayed two photos on TV monitors in the courtroom, with the first of the muscled double-amputee Olympic athlete standing facing a camera. There are blood stains up to the knees of his limbs and his shorts are also bloodied, but his naked chest appears to be clean of blood. A second photograph of Pistorius from the waist up and from the left side also shows blood on his shorts and parts of his body, with a tattoo visible on his back. The photographs were taken in Pistorius Pretoria home soon after the athlete killed Reeva Steenkamp in the early hours of Valentines Day last year, a former policeman testified. Pistorius says he carried Steenkamp downstairs to try to save her after mistakenly shooting her in his bathroom. Former police Col. G.S. van Rensburg described the early part of the investigation after he arrived at the scene around 30 to 40 minutes after prosecutors say Pistorius killed Steenkamp in the pre-dawn hours of Feb. 14, 2013. The prosecution says Pistorius intentionally killed Steenkamp in the upstairs bathroom after a loud argument and then tried to cover it up by saying he thought the 29-year-old model was a dangerous intruder. Pistorius, 27, maintains the killing was an accident and has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him. Van Rensburg, the former commander at a police station close to Pistorius home, said he didnt arrest Pistorius immediately, but did warn him to remain at the house. "I told him I observed him as a suspect at that stage," van Rensburg said. "I warned him of his rights ... I requested him to remain present at all times at the scene." Van Rensburg said Pistorius was earlier "very emotional," and that the runners brother and sister, Carl and Aimee, and a lawyer later arrived at the house. A close-up photograph of the toilet inside the cubicle where Steenkamp was shot three times, once in the head, was also displayed. It showed an extensive blood smear on the rim, as well as thick blood streaks in the bowl, where the water was also dark with blood. Van Rensburg said he recognized the toilet door through which Pistorius shot as the "most valuable" piece of evidence, and that it was important to secure it, particularly since he had heard media were willing to pay up to $5,500 for a photo of it. The toilet door was placed in a plastic "body bag" and transported to a police station, where van Rensburg said he stored it in his office because it was too big to fit in an area normally reserved for evidence from crime scenes. The police investigation has been heavily criticized by Pistorius defence lawyer, Barry Roux. Roux particularly questioned the conduct of former investigating officer Hilton Botha, who was thrown off the case last year and resigned from the police force. Roux repeatedly asked van Rensburg what Botha was doing at the scene during different parts of the investigation. Botha admitted last year that he didnt wear proper forensic clothing and shoe covers when he examined parts of the scene, and Pistorius team believes the police disturbed evidence and may have tampered with it. "You did not disturb anything in the bathroom? You did not see Mr. Hilton Botha disturb anything in the bathroom?" Roux asked van Rensburg. "Were you acutely aware that you should not disturb the scene? Did you have that awareness? And what was Mr. Botha doing?" Roux asked a little later. And again, Roux said: "Where was Mr. Botha now?" Van Rensburg said at points he did not know where Botha was. During the investigation in the bathroom, van Rensburg also said that he turned around at one point to see that the firearms expert was handling the gun Pistorius used to kill Steenkamp and had taken the magazine out of the weapon without using gloves. "I asked him, What are you doing?" van Rensburg testified. The officer realized his error, apologized, put the magazine back in the gun and laid it on the mat where it was on the floor. "I was very angry," van Rensburg said. Van Rensburg also testified that one of Pistorius expensive watches was apparently stolen from the crime scene that night. About eight expensive watches were found in a blood-spattered box in Pistorius bedroom and van Rensburg said he warned fellow officers that the watches should be observed closely because they could be tempting to anyone moving through the crime scene. Pistorius sister asked if she could take one of the watches, leaving seven in place, he said. But van Rensburg said another went missing while he was out of the room, prompting him to order the frisking of all the police forensic experts on the scene, as well as a search of their bags and vehicles, and the entire house. Four years after winning gold on home ice in Vancouver, the Canadians will get a chance to make it two in a row Sunday against Sweden after beating the United States 1-0 in the Olympic semifinals Friday at Bolshoy Ice Dome. https://www.jordanchina.us/ .J. -- Omar Cummings helped the Houston Dynamo advance to the MLS Eastern Conference finals.Ryan Millers short – and unsuccessful – tenure with the St. Louis Blues is all but over. Brian Elliott was signed to a three-year contract extension on Monday by the Blues and general manager Doug Armstrong noted that Jake Allen will be the other goalie in the tandem, leaving Miller as the odd man out. On July 1, the 33-year-old will likely hit the market as an unrestricted free agent. Being one of the most coveted free agents in this years market, especially in net, where do you think Miller will end up? The Pittsburgh Penguins seem to be a logical fit. Theyre coming off another disappointing early playoff exit which led to the firing of GM Ray Shero and the possible termination of head coach Dan Bylsma in the near future. Marc-Andre Fleury had another less-than-stellar post-season performance between the pipes, leading to the desire for change in Pittsburgh. Miller might be the guy to fill the void for a team that expects to hoist the Cup every year. The Minnesota Wild are a solid club lacking a reliable presence in goal as well. Darcy Kuemper took over as the starter last season after Josh Harding (multiple sclerosis) and Niklas Backstrom (strained abdominal muscle) struggled with health issues. Ilya Bryzgalov was sharp in his playoff stint in relief of Kuemper, but his career has shown he cant be counted on as a starter. The Washington Capitals missed the playoffs for the first time in six years. For most of the season, Braden Holtby was the man between the pipes for the defensively-challenged Capitals and Miller would be considered an improvement. Wholesale Air Jordan. With GM George McPhee and head coach Adam Oates out, change is in the air in Washington. California could also be a viable destination for Miller. The San Jose Sharks blew a 3-0 series lead against the Los Angeles Kings in the opening round and even though it wasnt Antti Niemis fault, a change might be in order. The Dallas Stars is also an option with Lindy Ruff – Millers former coach in Buffalo – behind the bench. However, Kari Lehtonen has four more years left on his contract and has been solid for Dallas since joining the club in 2009. Its possible Miller would like to play in his home state of Michigan with the Detroit Red Wings, but with Jimmy Howard manning the net, another move would need to be made to accommodate the Michigan State product. Could Canada be desirable for Miller? The Vancouver Canucks used to have Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider. Now they have Eddie Lack and Jacob Markstrom. With the Canucks window closing by the day, Vancouver might be interested in giving Miller an expensive, short-term deal for one last kick at the can. The Edmonton Oilers are another franchise that could use an upgrade in net, but Miller wants to win now and Edmonton is a tough sell for that reason. The same could be said for the Winnipeg Jets, who may not be convinced that Ondrej Pavelec is the answer. Miller is entering the latter half of his career. The time for him to choose a winner is now. So, where will Ryan Miller play next season? As always, its Your! Call. ' ' '

and Miskews ability to execute big-weight, multi-stone tak

ORLANDO, Fla. Cincinnati Reds Pro Shop . -- When Magic coach Jacque Vaughn was asked about his teams noticeable win discrepancy this season in games at home versus on the road, he likened their home floor to feeling like a "fluffed pillow" for his young team. It found that warm embrace again, this time at the expense of a team fighting for its playoff positioning. Tobias Harris had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Orlando beat the Portland Trail Blazers 95-85 on Tuesday night to stop a nine-game losing streak. Nik Vucevic added 22 points and 10 boards for the Magic, who led by just eight at the half but used scoring spurts in the third and fourth quarters to put the game away. Victor Oladipo had 13 points and six assists. Orlando improved to 16-18 at home, compared to 4-34 on the road. "When you play on the road its a lot different," Harris said. "Their crowd gives them energy just like our crowd does. We know we have to get better on the road, but were playing good at home and tonight was a good win for us." The Magic earned their fifth victory against a Western Conference team, but just their third over one that entered the night in position to make the playoffs. Orlando previously posted wins against the Clippers and Thunder in the Amway Center. The Magic also matched their win total for all of last season with nine games remaining. "I was really pleased with the mental focus that we had from the beginning of the game, to come out and not use being on the West Coast as an excuse," Vaughn said. "It was impressive to hold that team to 85 points." Robin Lopez led Portland with 20 points and 13 rebounds. The Blazers, who entered the night in fifth place in the West, have lost three straight. They were without forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who missed his seventh consecutive game with a lower back contusion. After getting blown out at Charlotte on Saturday, the Blazers rebounded and showed lots of fight in nearly upending defending champion Miami on Monday night. They didnt seem to have anything left at times against Orlando, which went right at Portlands front line. The Magic outscored the Blazers 46-44 in the paint. Portland coach Terry Stotts said before the game that the tight playoff race in the West dictated a need to "accumulate wins where we can get them." He acknowledged afterward that they missed one of those opportunities against the Magic. "This is a very, extremely disappointing loss and in fact it was a game we needed to have," Stotts said. "Weve got 10 games left. Theres got to be a sense of urgency every game. Playoff race is tight. Wed like to look forward, but weve got four teams that are right on our heels, and every game has a new sense of urgency." The Magic closed the third quarter on an 11-2 run and increased their lead to 19 in the opening minutes of the fourth. Harris was the most active player for Orlando in the final quarter, scoring eight points. The Blazers were finally able to string together some baskets and cut the lead down to 11 points on a 3-pointer by Wesley Matthews with 2:31 to play. But the Magic were able to close out the game from the foul line. Orlando took an eight-point lead into halftime after shooting 50 per cent from the field in the first half. Vucevic led the scoring effort with 14 points. The Magic also had 10 assists on their 21 baskets, including four from Oladipo. Lopez scored 10 first-half points for Portland, which shot just 40 per cent from the field. The Blazers also struggled from the foul line, connecting on only 2 of their 12 attempts. The victory aside, Vaughn said there wont be any heavy focus on wins or losses for his team the rest of the way. "Have not mentioned one time what our record is to the team," he said. "What I do mention to those guys, and (will) when we practice on Thursday, is lets come to work and get better. Thats how well continue to judge each other and continue to push each other." SAINT JOHN, N.B. -- Canadas Rachel Homan had ideal preparation for the playoffs at the Ford World Curling Championships with a pair of hard-fought wins over tenacious opponents Thursday. The Canadians defeated Sweden 9-6 and China 6-4 to finish atop the preliminary-round standings at 10-1. Their execution Thursday was the sharpest of the tournament so far. The games were tight with Homan and her Ottawa Curling Club teammates scoring three in the eighth ends of both. "We were really pushed today," Homan said. "It was great we were able to control the game and stay confident with this team and really nail the lines and make the big shots when we needed them. "We had to fight for our points." Homan will face Switzerlands Binia Feltscher, whose record was 9-2, in Fridays playoff game between the top two seeds. The two countries meet in the 1 vs. 2 Page playoff game between the top two seeds. (TSN, 6:30pm et/3:30pm pt) The winner books a ticket to Sundays gold-medal game. The loser drops to Saturdays semifinal. Canadas lone loss of the preliminary round was to the Swiss. It went so badly for the host country in ends five through eight that they shook hands early Sunday. "That was a little bit of a lopsided game," Homan acknowledged. "We had some misfortune, but I think were a little bit different now. Were going to know the rocks and its going to be on a different sheet and everything so I think it should be a great game." The top four teams advance to the Page playoff. Russias Anna Sidorova, Swedens Margaretha Sigfridsson and South Koreas Ji-sun Kim all finished tied at 8-3. Sidorova will play in Saturday mornings playoff between the third and fourth seeds with the winner advancing to the semifinal. Russias opponent will be the victor of Fridays tiebreaker between the Swedes and South Koreans. Sidorovas missed final shot of a game against the Czech Republic -- a draw -- prevented Russia from finishing 9-2 and playing Canada on Friday. China and Allison Pottinger of the U.S., were just outside playoff contention at 6-5 with Germanys Imogen Oona Lehmann and Anna Kubeskova of the Czech Republic ending their tournaments 3-8. Scotlands Kerry Barr and Denmarks Madeleine Dupont had 2-9 records ahead of Latvias Evita Regza at 1-10. Homan had to win a tiebreaker to get into the final four at last yyears world championship in Riga, Latvia. Wholesale Reds Jerseys. Canada won their subsequent playoff game before losing the semifinal and then winning the bronze medal. The beauty of finishing in the top two is the loser of Fridays game can still get to the championship game, albeit via a longer route. "We love the one-two game," Homan said. "Theres not much pressure. "Either way weve got a chance at the gold-medal game. Thats what were gunning for now." The Canadians struck a balance between patience and aggression to achieve their No. 1 ranking. The average age of Homan, third Emma Miskew, second Alison Kreviazuk and lead Lisa Weagle is just shy of 26, but theyre a Canadian womens curling team ahead of the curve when it comes to the big-game experience and the lessons learned in those games. Homan, Miskew and Kreviazuk have been teammates for over a decade. Since graduating from the junior ranks four years ago, they and Weagle have played in three national womens championships -- finishing fourth and winning twice -- two world championships and an Olympic trials. "This team may be young, but weve had so much experience," said Weagle, the oldest at 28. "We realize were a young team and have really ambitious goals. We really want to accomplish them, but at the same token, if you look at a lot of the great curlers in our sport, theyre in their 30s or even their 40s when theyre at the peak of their game." Weagles talent for clearing a road to the rings and Miskews ability to execute big-weight, multi-stone takeouts allows Canada to gamble and takes some pressure off Homan. Kreviazuk banged her broom after a few misses during the preliminary round, but the four curlers have an otherwise business-like demeanour on the ice. "Were patient and were learning all the time and were allowing ourselves to learn," Weagle said. "Were not expecting to be perfect every single shot, but when were not, we want to learn from it. "Often Ill go down and talk to Rachel about my shots and how Im throwing them, if she want me to make an adjustment or if shes going to make the adjustment with the broom. I think thats worked really well for us. We want to make the most shots possible and whatever way we need to do it, its good to take the emotion out and just treat it like business." ' ' '

TORONTO - The Toronto Blue Jays reassigned bullpen coach Pat Hentgen on Saturday and replaced him with Bob Stanley, who spent the last two seasons as a pitching coach with the teams triple-A affiliate in Buffalo. Mariners Jerseys 2019 . The move will give Hentgen the "time needed to support his family and his fathers current health issues," the Blue Jays said in a release. Hentgen spent 10 of his 14 big-league seasons with the Blue Jays, winning a Cy Young Award in 1996. He retired after the 2004 season. Hentgen, 45, returned to the team in 2007 as a club ambassador and also spent the 2011 season as bullpen coach. It wasnt immediately clear what his new duties will be. Stanley, 59, played 13 seasons with the Boston Red Sox and was named to the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 2000. Toronto finished last in the American League East last season with a 74-88 record. Oh how we missed you. Gone for just a day, you returned for us all to enjoy on Saturday, as a mini Copa America took place to start the knock out stages. You didnt return with a little tease. You didnt flirt with us, showing brief moments that will take our breath away. No, no. You were even more gorgeous than we remembered, handing us a game that brought all of our emotions to the core and a sensational, radiant maestro who continues to shine light on all that is glorious about you. Brazil 1-1 Chile (Brazil win 3-2 on pens) After arguably the greatest group stage to ever grace a World Cup we could have understood if the World Cups knock-out stages had given us a couple of games low on drama, particularly with what was on the line. What a load of nonsense. Brazil 2014 has laughed in the face of hyperbole at past World Cups, tactical trends and many other stereotypes and it was at it again on Saturday, handing us an instant classic the moment the knock out stages began. There is nothing like a World Cup. Nothing. Part of what makes it so incredible special is watching teams dance so close to that line of elimination. On Saturday in the Belo Horizonte sunshine, the host nation danced precariously close to that line. It is a line that past champions have flirted with often, including in the last 16. Back in 2006, Italy needed a 95th minute controversial winner from Francesco Totti to send Australia home and in 1998 holders France couldnt get by Paraguay until a 113th minute golden goal winner by Laurent Blanc. Brazil clearly have a long way to go to be added to that list but the millions of Brazilians watching this game have their mind on one thing and one thing only - the World Cup trophy. Before Saturday, the mandate was clear. Win four games and lift the trophy inside the Maracana on July 13th. Easier said than done. Chile were always the team they didnt want to face. When the draw was made, many looked at a possible Brazil-Spain knockout game but Luiz Felipe Scolari feared Chile more. On Saturday, we found out why. For a nation that expects, the atmosphere was like a carnival at kick-off. There was very little sense of tension. Brazil came out of the blocks flying, pressing high, recovering balls quickly and countering through the blistering speed of Neymar. A goal seemed inevitable and it came through the route all Chile fans feared. Neymars corner, flicked on by Thiago Silva, and poked in by David Luiz at the back post ignited the carnival further. Brazil were in complete control and Chile were shell-shocked, overawed by the occasion. Then another error on Brazils left side of their defence and the lethal combination of Eduardo Vargas and Alexis Sanchez gave them the goal they needed. Chiles nerves were gone and their confidence blossomed. Brazil, through Hulk, had some of the games better chances in the second half but Chile were the better side. The carnival disappeared and the tension flooded the stadium. Eleven players in yellow with the weight of over 200 million people on their shoulders. Chile grew stronger sensing an opportunity. Jorge Sampaoli, their wonderfully animated coach, did what he could but he was powerless. Deep in thought must have been what could have been if Arturo Vidal was anywhere close to the player Juventus fans have been lucky to watch closely. Clearly not fit, the talisman was withdrawn from the cauldron close to the end of 90 minutes and it was a cruel blow for such a special player who clearly could have had a massive influence on this game if not for knee surgery last month. Extra time came, Chile tired, Brazil tightened and penalties were inevitable, even though Mauricio Pinilla smashed the bar in the final seconds. The tension was unbearable for many and then referee Howard Webb got to do what he looked destined to do four years ago. The lottery of penalties it was called by the commentator. How naive. As the game came to a climax, both sides will have statistical analysis on each of the players. Even prepared writers had the stats. Julio Cesar had stopped six of 18 penalties in the last five years. Claudio Bravo had faced 16 spot kicks and prevented three. These stats and plenty more make the experience and education of preparing for a shootout much more worthwhile. For example, here is how Gareth Wheeler and I prepared for the penalties on TSN Radio. Seven of the last eight winners in World Cup shootouts went first and Brazil won the toss and did exactly that. David Luizs opener was worth much more than just one goal. When Julio Cesar saved from Pinilla the odds stacked hheavily against the visitors. Seattle Mariners Store. Only four of the previous 22 World Cup shootouts had seen a team miss first and advance. Chile would get it back to 2-2 through four shootouts but Brazil still had the advantage, knowing a goal would put their opponents in a must score scenario. That pressure fell on Neymar. As the television screens worldwide showed Marcelo Diaz celebrating his penalty, the face of the Brazilian side broke away from his teammates and made the lonely walk by himself. From the moment the eighth penalty was kicked, Neymar had 33 seconds to think about whatever entered his mind. Then he received the ball off the referee and placed it down. 52 seconds had now ticked by before he started his run up. He did a little jig of a dance, oh so close to the line of elimination, checked his run, waiting for the keeper to move but it never happened, forcing him to choose a side. Naturally, Neymar went to his natural side (right footed players hitting it to the left) sliding it to the keepers right. David Luiz was their to greet him as he walked back, a very important sign of unity and intimidation as Chiles fifth taker walked by.Gonzalo Jara then had to score. He went to his unnatural side, guessed correctly by Julio Cesar, but the post kept the ball out and Brazil partied long into the night. Brazil had escaped. They were, once again, miles away from the standard they need to reach but now they are only three games away from their goal. Julio Cesar, Thiago Silva, Hulk and Neymar stood out for the Brazilians while many others didnt. A move to 4-3-3 in the second half, with Oscar, centrally and deeper, seems to be the right way going forward but Neymars boys will need to be much, much better to stay in this tournament. After all, he is coming up against another absolute star number ten in yellow... Colombia 2-0 Uruguay Uruguay made no friends in the wake of the latest Luis Suarez biting incident. Oscar Washington Tabarez is a fine gentleman who has done wonders for that country and that federation but his 12 minute rant at a press conference on Friday was sad to see. It was seen as a way of firing up his team but, in truth, they were lifeless in attack once again. It was always going to be difficult for the team to come from behind, much like against Costa Rica (and not against England and Italy) and once one moment of brilliance turned the game, Uruguay were very close to joining Suarez at home. James Rodriguez is now the undisputed player of the tournament so far. A man who wasnt even born the last, and only, time Colombia played a knock out round at the World Cup (1990). His goal changed the game and changed the path for his country as they marched down a road to the World Cup quarter finals for the first time ever. It was a goal you will see over and over again. A goal made by spatial awareness, supreme football intelligence and incredible technique. 27:18 James moves into space between the lines... 27:24 The play develops and still he finds space in that area, constantly moving... 27:27 Still operating between the lines, showing for the ball... 27:31 Here is the brilliance. Ball finally comes his way and here is "the look". A glance behind to see if any defenders are coming tight behind him. Knowing they are not he plays out what is about to happen in his mind before the ball reaches him... Setting himself up for the best goal of the World Cup so far... Man of the day Nominees... Neymar - his pace was a constant threat for Chile and his penalty ended up sending them home. Claudio Bravo - the Chilean goalkeeper was excellent throughout the match and made a big save in the shootout. Julio Cesar - made two superb stops to turn the tide in the shootout. James Rodriguez - a wonderful strike followed by a tap in he helped create meant he, fittingly, carried Colombia into the last eight. Juan Cuadrado - Buried in the shadow of James, the winger has been superb in this tournament and was no different against Uruguay. The winner... Julio Cesar - Seen as the villain of the 2010 World Cup exit, the Brazilian goalkeeper was trusted by his manager to be the number one at the World Cup even when he was on the bench at QPR. He returned that trust and guided Brazil over an enormous hurdle. What comes next? Netherlands vs Mexico (12pm/9am) and Greece vs Costa Rica (4pm/1pm). Burning question for Sunday Do the Netherlands have the midfield trio to be able to match up and keep the ball off Mexicos effective midfield three? Stat of Day 17 Eight of the last nine teams to win a World Cup penalty shootout have taken the first penalty. ' ' '

SAN JOSE, Calif. Air Jordan Discount . - Matt Read, Michael Raffl and Claude Giroux scored in a span of 2:45 early in the third period to erase a one-goal deficit and lead the Philadelphia Flyers past San Jose 5-2 on Monday night for their first win over the Sharks since 2000. Mark Streit and Jacob Voracek also scored and Steve Mason made 20 saves for the Flyers, who had 11 losses and two ties in the series since beating the Sharks on Dec. 21, 2000. Sharks rookie Matt Nieto scored twice in the first period for his first career multigoal game, but that lead was erased in a flash early in the third period when Antti Niemi was sent to the bench as San Jose lost for the fourth time in five games. The Sharks have just four goals in those five games but were in position to get the win before the Flyers took advantage of shaky goaltending by Niemi and lacklustre overall play from San Jose to set a franchise record with their 10th win this season when trailing in the third period. Read started the onslaught when his shot on the rush deflected off defenceman Matt Irwins stick to tie the game 1:11 into the third. The Flyers took the lead just 1:18 later when Niemi gave up a big rebound on Erik Gustafssons point shot that went right to Raffl in the slot. A neutral-ice turnover by Irwin led to Girouxs 18th goal on a shot that deflected off Niemis glove, stunning the home crowd 1:27 after Philadelphia took the lead. Giroux also set up Voraceks late goal that sealed the win, finishing the game with a goal and two assists. The Flyers had controlled play since the first period but were unable to get the equalizer until early in the third. Niemi made a nice save early in the second against Wayne Simmonds, and Scott Hartnell and Gustafsson each missed the net on good chances later in the period. The Sharks almost extended their lead on a late power play but Mason robbed Brent Burns with a glove save to keep San Joses lead at 2-1 heading into the third. The teams traded power-play goals early in the first period, with Streit scoring on a point shot through a screen by Simmonds after Nieto was called for hooking in the offensive zone. Nieto more than made up for his transgression the rest of the period. With Nicklas Grossmann in the box for hooking, Irwin shot the puck into the corner from his own blue line. Tommy Wingels raced to the puck to negate an icing call and sent a perfect feed to Nieto in front of the net for the deflection on his first career power-play goal. Nieto was the recipient of another nice pass later in the period, when Burns set him up with a blind, backhand pass from the corner that led to his second goal. That gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead that lasted until the third. NOTES: Flyers D Kimmo Timonen was scratched for the second straight game with a foot injury. ... etch Bostons lead to 78-63. The Celtics finish

The next morning pulling up to the world famous Metropolis was as exciting as it was the very first time we played there! This venue holds so many memories for the band and so many pillars within our career that it keeps a special place in our heart. Custom San Diego Padres Jerseys . Its very difficult to explain what Montreal means to the band - for many years it was home to both of JM, and to Stuart… Subsequently making it a second home for me, as I was traveling up there every week to work on material, especially during the Transmission, and Triptych years. I was literally bouncing off the bus walls… I made my way inside as I usually do when we first arrive at a venue to scope it out when it is empty. I imagined all of the crazy friends and fans losing it to the show later that night.Later we headed off to CHOM FM for a quick video chat, then into see one of the most respected on air personalities of our time, Mr. TooTall! Its always good to get a blessing from the rock n roll doctor himself… Feel better TooTall! The show that night did not miss a single step… From sound, to lights, to the band, to the fan reaction, it was truly outstanding! For me this show fell in the top five of all time… There, yes, I said it… Of all time! Simply unbelievable…Following the show is also a great moment in Montreal because of the smoked meat sandwiches we bring in for our technical crew and band. God bless Schwartz!I tell you, I really dont like having to go to sleep at 2 AM, only to be woken up at 4 AM to clear immigration to get into the US. But, in all honesty it wasnt bad at all… As a matter of fact, it was the easiest border crossing with the band I have ever, ever completed. When you live in a border town next to Detroit, any other border crossing seems like a cakewalk. I understand that they have a very serious job to do, but sometimes it is so over-the-top with the questions when youre literally going to a hockey or baseball game with tickets in hand. Our tour manager was ready for all the questions and had all of our papers and passports in order, so we were literally the only people in the Watertown area border crossing and it flew through in around 20 minutes. Back to bed! What a sleep!… I dont know what happened there, but I got an extra six or seven hours all the way to Buffalo! This is some kind of weird record for OL JB...I was very happy to see the streets of Buffalo look almost completely bare of snow… What a crazy week this poor community has had! We had some friends down at our sound check at The Town Ballroom. I dont know if my eyes are deceiving me, but this club does not look like it can hold 1000+ people...this is going to be absolutely ridiculous tonight!Once again, the band killed it live… I hope I really dont come off sounding like Im boasting, because Im not… We are just simply killing it lately. We are back, we are definitely back. After the show I went directly back onto the bus to dry off. Some of our friends came on and I decided to crank up the tunes and have a front lounge dance party… No kidding...dance party. No, I cant dance, but I sure look funny trying. No, there are no pictures of me trying! ;)Once loadout was complete in Buffalo, the bus had to roll so we got dropped off at our hotel as the band was going to fly to Winnipeg the next day. After one and a half hours sleep, we headed to the Buffalo airport to fly to Winnipeg.Ill come back with more details of our days off and press day in Winnipeg in a few days. Until then be safe, be cool, and do something nice for someone.L.A.M.F.JB San Diego Padres Store . 1 Pete Sampras. Padres Jerseys 2019 . - Young and old. https://www.cheappadresjerseys.us/ .I shared with him how much I appreciated all he had done for us, Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said of that Thursday night farewell. BOSTON -- The Boston Celtics overcame Detroits dominance inside by passing the ball precisely and protecting it better than they had all season. Rajon Rondo had 18 of Bostons season-high 38 assists and the Celtics committed just seven turnovers in a 118-111 win over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night. "When one guy has it going as far as passing the ball, its contagious," said Rondo, who also scored 11 points and didnt turn the ball over. "We scored a bunch of points tonight. We kept on pushing. We played free and just had fun." Jeff Green scored 27 points, Kris Humphries had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Kelly Olynyk added 18 points off the bench for the Celtics in their second-highest scoring output of the season. Jerryd Bayless had 15 points and Jared Sullinger 14 for the Celtics, who got at least one assist from every player that entered the game. "I think we do have a pretty unselfish group moving the ball. We missed a couple of extra passes, but not very many," Boston coach Brad Stevens said. "Its good to see the body movement and the ball movement. I think weve been pretty active on that end of the floor." Josh Smith had 28 points and 11 rebounds for the Pistons and was one of three Detroit players with double-doubles. Andre Drummond had 18 points and 22 rebounds and Greg Monroe finished with 22 points and 14 boards. Will Bynum added 18 points off the bench for the Pistons, who have lost seven of eight and 10 of their last 12. "I think that our effort level needs to be a little bit harder," Bynum said. "I think maybe we need to play with a sense of urgency. We are trying to make the playoffs." Detroit controlled the game inside, outrebounding Boston 54-39 and outscoring the Celtics 64-44 in the paint. However, the Pistons committed 16 turnovers and could not cool off the Celtics once theyy started hitting shots. Wholesale Padres Jerseys. Boston shot 15 for 22 in the third quarter, including eight 3-pointers, in its highest scoring game since beating Orlando 120-105 on Nov. 11. "Sometimes we close out hoping they miss and I thought down the stretch of the game, we closed out trying to make them miss," Detroit coach John Loyer said. "We dared them to shoot the basketball and they had a very good shooting night, but youve got to adjust as the game goes on and guys are shooting the ball." Boston beat the Pistons for the first time in three meetings this season. Detroit had rallied from 21-points down to win in Boston on Dec. 18, but the Celtics were able to hold off the Pistons each time they rallied down the stretch this time. After going 2 for 14 from 3-point range in the first half, the Celtics made five from beyond-the-arc in the first 6 minutes of the third quarter. Smith pulled Detroit to 69-63 on a 3-pointer with 7:27 left in the period, the Green made back-to-back 3s followed by another from Bayless to stretch Bostons lead to 78-63. The Celtics finished the period with eight 3s and led 95-84 entering the fourth. With the Labour Day Classics now in the books, the CFL schedule makes its midseason turn to the fall. Pittsburgh Penguins Pro Shop . The games get all the more important now leading up to the postseason, but theres just time enough to look back at the first half and award the midseason Most Outstanding Player. It comes down to a three-horse race with two of those horses wearing the green of the first place Saskatchewan Roughriders, but ultimately Toronto Argonauts QB Ricky Ray deserves the most MOP consideration for his outstanding first half. Ray and Roughriders QB Darian Durant have had similarly spectacular starts to the season but what gives Ray the edge is he isnt working with a potential record breaking running back in Kory Sheets (the other candidate for the midseason MOP), taking pressure off the pass game. Ray has missed some time so far this season (and is expected to miss a lot more in the second half) but when hes on the field hes nearly automatic. His 78 percent completion rate is 10 points higher than any other QB in the league and his 15 touchdowns to zero interceptions is almost unheard of. The 33-year-old continues to deliver even with teams keying on the Double Blues passing game. Ray has been without his top RB Chad Kackert for most of the season and Torontos ground game has produced just 718 yards combined on the season, just more than 60 percent of Sheets total alone. Durants stat line (21 touchdowns to one interception) is just as breathtaking as Rays; what Sheets has done in the first half is historic (and we all know how much the league loves record breakers); and the Riders league leading 8-1 record all made the decision anything but easy, but Ray and the Argos passing game has led the team to an East leading 5-4 record with little to no help on the ground. You could argue Durant and Sheets are splitting votes at the time. Durant and Sheets will have plenty of time to catch up by seasons end, and with Ray out for up to the next five weeks now the award is all but guaranteed to go to someone else when the votes count, but for now Rays incredible renaissance in the Big Smoke continues. Fringe candidates to keep an eye on in the second half of the season include last years winner Chad Owens and last years runner-up Jon Cornish, and the leagues passing leader Henry Burris. And if the award could be shared among teammates, the Calgary Stampeders trio at quarterback would deserve consideration as well. The Rouge asks: Who is your midseason Most Outstanding Player?
